After several months of studying under Dr. Arielle Schwartz and completing her 30 hour program and certification in Applied Polyvagal Theory in Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma Recovery, I am excited to offer this six week embodied series starting next month. Each session includes gentle yoga, breathwork, and embodiment exercises designed to help regulate the nervous system, release trauma stored in the body, and foster resilience. Participants will leave with practical tools for emotional regulation, nervous system support, and self-connection.
To better understand the connection between stress, trauma, and overall health, it is important to focus on the vagus nerve and its bi-directional communication highway between the mind and body. When the vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system are out of balance, it can lead to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, depression, shutdown or dissociation. Stimulating the vagus nerve can help regulate both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. By using breath and movement we can restore balance and help our nervous system become more resilient. Through these embodied practices we can learn to move through these two states without getting stuck in either fight or flight or freeze and shutdown.
