The Secret Staircase is a fictional story of the author’s orange tabby cat named Milo, who dreams of escaping out the front door. And, when Milo finally does escape, he learns of the secret staircase. This begins his many adventures with other neighborhood animals. His rival, Big Grey, arrives on the scene and threatens Milo. When Milo and his sidekick, RoseBud, escape using the secret staircase, they are joined by angel cat Ziggy and crazy bird Birdie. Their human has no clue of their comings and goings, since Milo learns the secret staircase is not visible to the human eye.

RoseBud helps Milo stay grounded when an escape becomes too dangerous, or when their human will learn they are missing. Initially wanting to see the neighbor’s garden, Milo seeks an encounter with an alligator and is witness to RoseBud almost being killed by a hawk. Angel cat Ziggy protects them so when their human is looking for them, they are always right there when called.
