Simplifying Dental Extractions in the Dog

Join us for an 8 CE HR wet lab! This course will provide comprehensive instruction on the extraction of dog teeth including preparation of a mucoperiosteal flap, sectioning of mutli-rooted teeth, appropriate bone removal and elevation of the crown and root. The course will start with a lecture on approaches to extraction including simple elevation of single rooted teeth to different options of mucoperiosteal flaps for elevation of more complicated mutli-rooted teeth. Instruction on the correct application of local blocks will also be provided. β€‹


Course taught by Dr. Daniel Clayton, DVM, Board-Certified Veterinary Dentistβ„’ and Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. He completed his residency in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Veterinary Dental Services in Boxborough, MA. He completed an internship in small animal emergency and surgery at VCA South Shore and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry, AVMA, MVMA and RIVMA. He received the 2019 Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry Grant for the research project: β€œComparison of Cone Beam Computed Tomography, Digital Radiography and Oral Exam in the Identification of Feline Tooth Resorption with Histopathologic Analysis as the Gold Standard”. Dr. Clayton started Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery of Rhode Island in 2023 and is currently working to establish a dental referral practice in the Rhode Island area.
