Donation to the 1865 Society

$10.00 - $100.00

The 1865 Society of Pender County, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded to commemorate the historical significance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the celebration of the freedom from slavery issued through the Emancipation Proclamation, signed into law by President Lincoln on January 1, 1863. We are seeking your support to assist us in furthering our mission, which is to educate, celebrate and engage present and future generations, keeping alive the relevant culture and rich history of African Americans. African American History is American History.

Our Annual Juneteenth Celebration has grown and expanded; it will take place Saturday, June 22, 2024, on the historic grounds of the Pender County Courthouse in Burgaw, NC. Last year’s Celebration was well attended. Our Celebration was supported by the Town of Burgaw and Pender County along with other donations and sponsorships. Since our inaugural Celebration, Town of Burgaw has adopted Juneteenth as a paid holiday for its employees. This year’s activities include a Spelling Bee with Burgaw Middle School in collaboration with Communities and Schools. Our featured guest artist this year is Gospel Grammy Award Winner, Donnie McClurkin.

Your donation will help defray our expenses to provide this free concert to the community as well as assist us as we design, develop, and create activities and programs that teach and promote diversity and equity for all.
