This seminar incorporates traditional Polynesian style of massage, as it was developed over several generations in Hawaii. Specifically, it is based on the work of Aunty Margaret Machado, a Kupuna of Lomi Lomi who lived and practiced on the Kona Coast of Hawaii for many decades. This practice has been passed on by one of her direct students, βUncleβ Dan Higgins. Content being used is with the direct approval and consent of Daniel Higgins, as developed for instructional purposes by him.
This modality is a gentle, yet deep massage into the muscles using continuous flowing strokes.
By the end of this session, the registrant will be expected to:
1. Identify and demonstrate techniques specific to Lomi Lomi massage.
2. Understand how to integrate Lomi Lomi techniques into their everyday massage practices.
3. Understand the history and cultural context behind Lomi Lomi massage and practices associated with it.
4. Understand basic Hawaiian words as they relate to massage.
