April 30: Express Your True Colors: Shibori (Tie-Dye) Silk Scarf for Mother's Day - Shibori is the collective term for all types of resist dyeing using binding, stitching, folding, clamping, pleating and wrapping. The common factor is the compression of the fabric which prevents the dye from accessing some areas which, when dyed and undone, yield a beautiful range of complex patterns. Students will learn about this technique by dying a silk scarf. We will also be experimenting with dying tissue paper for gift wrapping your scarf. Students may bring a 100% cotton item (like a T-shirt or pillow case) to tie-dye as well.
