Age Level: 16+ (children 12+ may join if accompanied by an adult).


Introduction

Fireweed, known for its brilliant magenta blossoms and lush green foliage, provides an excellent subject for exploring basic loose watercolor techniques. In this class participants will learn to paint fireweed with regular and metallic watercolors, incorporating several traditional watercolor techniques such as wet-in-wet, dry-on-wet, dry brush, gradient wash, ink-and-wash, and splatter.


Course Objectives

  • Basic Watercolor Techniques: Students will learn foundational techniques such as brush strokes, water-to-paint ratio, creating color washes, color mixing, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, blending, etc.
  • Focus on Fireweed: Participants will observe how to translate the vibrant colors and forms of fireweed onto paper, enhancing their observational skills.
  • Incorporating Metallic Accents: Attendees will learn how to effectively use metallic watercolors, adding shimmer and depth to their artwork.
  • Skill Development for All Levels: The class will cater to all skill levels, ensuring guidance and support to help each student achieve their artistic vision. No prior watercolor experience needed to participate.
